What is Montreal Comiccon?

Montreal Comiccon is a pop-culture fan convention that showcases artists and products from entertainment genres like: Sci-fi, Horror, Anime, Gaming in all its forms, and, of course, bande dessinée and comic books. (Please see the Newbie Questions section for a description of each genre).

When is Montreal Comiccon?

Montreal Comiccon runs from Friday, July 14 to Sunday, July 16, 2023.

Who should come to Montreal Comiccon?

Everyone! Well, to be specific anyone one who is curious about or enjoys Sci-fi, Anime, Horror, Bande dessinée, Comic books or Gaming. Or, if you just want to see where we geeks roam free.

Where is Montreal Comiccon taking place?

Montreal Comiccon is taking place at Palais des congrès located at 1001 Place Jean-Paul-Riopelle, Montreal, QC H2Z 1H5.

How do I get there?

Located in Montréal’s downtown core, the Palais is a hub of activity straddling the city’s business centre, international district, Old Montréal and Chinatown, it is near Montréal’s main attractions, and also less than ten minutes from 15,000 hotel rooms, 4,500 of which are directly linked to the Palais via the underground pedestrian network and Metro system.

On foot – exterior access: the main entrance is at 1001 Place Jean-Paul-Riopelle, Montréal, but there are also entrances on Viger, St. Urbain and St. Antoine streets.

By Bus: Bus lines 55 and 129 stop in front of the Palais des congrès. Visit the Société des transports de Montréal (STM) website to find the best bus route near you.

By Métro: The Palais des congrès is located at the Place-d’Armes métro station on the orange line. Directions at the métro exit will guide you to the installations.

By car: There are several parking areas at or near the Palais des congrès, including:

  • an indoor parking lot (400 spots) on Viger Ave, via Chenneville Street;
  • an indoor parking lot (1,200 spots) accessible via St. Antoine Street.

Daily parking is from $18-$22.

Bicycle or Bixi: Bicycle racks are available around the Palais and in the indoor parking lot on Viger. There are several Bixi stations on and near the Palais site.

By train:

  • Lucien-L’Allier station (commuter train terminal from Dorion/Rigaud, Delson/Candiac and Blainville/St. Jérôme), take the orange line towards Montmorency. Stop at Place-d’Armes and follow the directions to the Palais des congrès.
  • From Gare Centrale (commuter train terminal from Mont-Saint-Hilaire and Deux-Montagnes and Via Rail trains), follow the directions to get to the Bonaventure métro station. Take the orange line towards Montmorency until Place-d’Armes. Note: You can also get to the Palais from Gare Centrale on foot in less than 10 minutes. Take De La Gauchetière West towards University Street. Take a right on University and a left on Viger. The Palais is on your right at the fourth stop light.

What additional tips or recommendations do you have that could make my Comiccon experience more enjoyable?

  1. Bring Cold Hard Cash. Even if you don’t think you will buy much at the show – take some Canadian coloured currency to prepare for unexpected expenses – like in case you want a snack or the booth that has that coveted collectible doesn’t accept debit. There will be ATM’s on site but we think you would rather spend time in a line where the piece of paper you get at the end is an autograph.
  2. Stay hydrated! Make sure you bring a water bottle. All that walking and standing around will dehydrate the best of us. Especially if we’re in costume.
  3. Wear comfortable shoes. True enough, beauty requires a little discomfort; however you may want to sacrifice a tad of style and good looks (even though they are often worth the pain). We highly (oh, so highly) recommend you wear some comfy, clean clothes and a nice pair of shoes with excellent cushioning.
  4. Consult your Programme Guide. We’ve put together a programme of presentations, panels, films and other events. When you get to the Expo, you’ll be able to get a schedule and one of the first things you should do is to sit down somewhere, study it and mark off the events you think you’d like to attend. Or if you have arrived early, look it over while you are waiting for the doors to open. The schedule will be available in advance on our website. You should mark down intriguing program items before you go. The Programme Guide which has to go to print several weeks in advance, so check the schedules in front of each room often, or subscribe to our Facebook page where we will list any updates or cancellations. And yes, in British-English countries like Canada, it is Programme (not Program, silly! )
  5. Love the line! Lining up at any fan convention is a fact of life. Need some money from the ATM? Line Up! Gotta get some grub? Line up! I want to be in first? Line up with the rest of us! Autographs, Q&A’s, Photo Ops? Lines, lines, lines. Chances are you will be spending some time in lines. This is where bringing a partner helps or something to read or play a game on your iPhone or make friends with that Klingon next to you…
  6. Bring a backpack or tote shopping bag. Whether you are bringing comics for Creator Guests to sign, or you are buying lots of stuff, you’ll be glad when you have something handy to carry your stuff around in.
  7. Bring…more useful stuff!
    Here are some other accessories that many are happy to have and regret when they don’t:

    • An autograph book or sketchbook
    • A good pen/Sharpie for getting autographs
    • A folder or other container to carry artwork
    • DVDs/Books you want signed by professionals who’ll be in attendance
    • A cell phone & charger (for energy sucking smart phones!)
    • A pen and note pad, in case your iPhone died and you can’t charge it.
    • Your camera and extra battery, in case your iPhone died and you can’t charge it.
    • Mints
    • Deodorant… No, no… Not for you, for that other sweaty person in line… Ok, you.
    • Hand Sanitizer
  8. If it’s illegal outside the convention, it’s illegal inside the convention. For the safety of all con attendees, please review the Montreal Comiccon Weapons Policy. It can be found here:

    Failure to do so will result in warnings and potentially loss of convention membership.

  9. Mind your P’s and Q’s. Be polite and let our guests know that you appreciate them coming to Montreal and Montreal Comiccon. If you’re polite and ask for an autograph or a sketch, most guests will be happy to oblige. Take out your book to a fresh page, tell them you’re a fan and would they mind doing a quick sketch for your personal collection.

Ticket Information

Where can I buy tickets for this event?

Three-Day, Deluxe and VIP tickets can only be purchased online or at the Capitaine Québec store (1837 Sainte-Catherine St W, Montreal). On the days of event, tickets can also be bought onsite at the Palais des congrès, as per their availability.

What form of payments do you accept?

Online purchases must use a credit card (Visa, Visa debit, MasterCard, American Express) and via online debit Interac (Banking institutions Scotia Bank, TD, RBC, or BMO). If onsite tickets are still available, they can be purchased with cash, debit, or credit card.

Is there admission for children?

Yes and No. Children 6 to 12 inclusively will need to purchase a Child Pass for Saturday & Sunday. Entry is free on Friday only.

Entry is free for Children aged 5 and under all three days.

There is a maximum of two children per one adult ticket.

Can I bring my kids?

Yes – however not all panels and programming are appropriate for children. Please be vigilant and review the schedule to avoid any potential misunderstandings.

How am I receiving my tickets?

During your purchase, you will choose your “delivery method”.

1. Smartphone ticket: Receive your tickets by email on your smartphone (iPhone, Blackberry, Android). To be eligible, your phone must be able to open PDF files. If you have a Blackberry, you must use an email address that is linked to your phone.

2. Electronic ticket: Print your tickets.

The barcode or QR code that appears there will be scanned when you arrive at the Palais des congrès.

What if I haven't received my email confirmation?

Sometimes auto-generated emails are filtered somewhere other than your inbox. Please check your spam or bulk folder. You can also log back into your TicketPro account here and select My Tickets at the top of the page . If you encounter any issues, please contact TicketPro at 1-866-908-9090.

Can I show you my eTicket on my mobile phone?

Yes. Scanning stations will include a scanner for mobile phones. (Make sure your phone is fully charged.)

What if I don't have my printed eTicket, only the credit card statement?

We can only accept your eTicket.

I want to give these tickets as a gift and the name on the ticket does not match the person attending. Is that okay?

This is not a problem. Tickets can be given to anyone for redemption; however you can only give 1 unique ticket per person. Should a duplicate ticket arrive at the event, the ticketholder may be refused entry.

Do I have to buy separate tickets for specific panels, Q&As, concerts, or screenings?

Most events in the programme are included with a daily, 3-day, Deluxe, or VIP pass. However, there might be a few specially ticketed events, like a concert, that will require an additional ticket.

Is there a group rate when you buy X number of tickets?

We have a limited promotional discount if you buy more than 20 tickets of a single type. This discount is only offered to companies & organizations, and applies only if payment is made with a corporate credit card. Please use the ‘Contact us’ form and select “Tickets’ in the dropdown subject list if you would like details.

Can I get a refund if the vaccine passport is reintroduced?

All ticket sales are final. No refund or exchange will be issued in this instance.

Can I get a refund if my favorite star doesn't show up?

Guests could cancel their appearance or change their appearance schedule because of other professional commitments or reasons out of the Montreal Comiccon control. In such circumstances, the Montreal Comiccon cannot be held responsible. All sales are final. No exchange or refund will be issued.

What age should I be to buy the Friday Youth ticket?

The Youth Ticket is only valid for students aged between 13 and 21 years.

My kid doesn't have a ticket; can they come in with me?

If I purchase a single-day pass for Friday but decide to come on a different day instead will I still be able to use that ticket?

A single day pass is valid only for the day indicated on the ticket. For example, those who have a Friday pass but decide to come on a Saturday instead will be denied entry into the convention.

What age should I be to buy the Friday Youth ticket?

The Youth Ticket is only valid for students aged between 13 and 21 years.

Deluxe Tickets

Do I get in before others?

Deluxe ticket holders will be in immediately after all VIP ticket holders on all three days: 60 minutes early on Friday (12:00 p.m.), 60 minutes early on Saturday (9:00 a.m.), 30 minutes early on Sunday (9:30 a.m.).

My kid doesn't have a Deluxe ticket; can they come in with me?

Children up to 12 years of age will be granted early access to the exhibit halls when accompanied by an adult with a Deluxe or VIP pass. Children ages 6 to 12 MUST have pre-purchased a Child Pass*. Children up to 5 years of age get free entry.

*Note that entry is free for children ages 6 to 12 on Friday. You must however purchased a Saturday & Sunday Child Pass.

Do I get front-of-the-line access to guests for autographs?

No, Deluxe ticket holders do not get front-of-the-line-access for autographs. This service is unique to the VIP ticket.

VIP Tickets

Do I get in before others?

VIP ticket holders will be the first to be let in on all three days: 60 minutes early on Friday (12:00 p.m.), 60 minutes early on Saturday (9:00 a.m.), 30 minutes early on Sunday (9:30 a.m.).

My kid doesn't have a VIP pass; can they come in with me?

Children from 6 to 12 years of age will be granted early access to the exhibit halls when accompanied by an adult with a Deluxe or VIP pass. They MUST have pre-purchased a Child Pass*. Children up to 5 years of age get free entry.

*Note that entry is free for children 6 to 12 on Friday and Sunday.

Front-of-the-line access for autographs is strictly reserved for VIP ticket holders.

Do I get front-of-the-line access to all guests for photo ops?

VIP ticket holders will get front-of-the-line access to all Photo Ops.

My kid doesn't have a VIP pass; do they get front-of-the-line access for photo ops?

Priority access for Photo Ops will be accommodated when accompanied by an adult with a VIP pass, but only to participate in the same photo shoot.

Is a photo op included in my ticket?

No. A Photo Op Voucher for a specific date/time will need to be purchased separately. See the Photo Ops FAQ.

Do I get priority seating in all events and panel rooms?

VIP ticket holders have priority seating in the Main Events Room only.

When should I arrive for a main event?

VIP ticket holders will be allowed to enter the Main Events room prior between 15 to 30 minutes before the Event starts. Priority seating will close 15 minutes before the scheduled start. At that time VIP priority seating will be forfeit, releasing those seats to other patrons.

Can my child sit with me in the VIP seating?

A Child Pass does not confer VIP priority access to seating when accompanying an adult with a VIP pass. Priority seating is strictly reserved for VIP ticket holders. If the child is small enough, they can sit on the guardian’s lap. Children that are too big will need to sit in the regular seats or purchase a VIP ticket.

Photo Ops

What is a photo op?

A photo op is a professional photo of you with the celebrity guest you choose. You will get a photo taken under ideal lighting conditions and shot with professional camera equipment. You will receive an 8×10 print of your photo printed on professional photo printers.

Please understand that a photo op is not a meet and greet, it is a rapidly moving process. It is important you listen for prompts from the line attendants and the photographer to ensure you get the best photo possible.

How much does it cost to get a photo op?

Each guest sets his/her own price for autographs and photo ops. We don’t currently have access to those prices, but we are trying to get them before the show so people can prepare accordingly. These could be around $30 to $130 (before taxes and services) for a single photo op. We typically start listing guests prices on their profile about 2-4 weeks before the event.

Do I have to have an entry ticket to Montreal Comiccon to get a photo op?

Yes, you do! The photo ops booth is located within the convention, valid admission to the convention is a pre-requisite to getting a photo op.

Can I ask the celebrity a question during the photo op session?

Please understand that a photo op is not a meet and greet, it is a rapidly moving process. Know that our guests need to also do their on-stage presentations and sign autographs, generally all in the same day, and they often need to catch a plane or make another engagement. The Photo Op lasts less than 15 seconds.

What should I wear to the photo op?

Your photo will no doubt be highly prized and saved for years, so we suggest giving some thought to your wardrobe. White does not photograph well.

Where do I purchase photo op vouchers?

  • Before the show: A limited number of Photo Op Vouchers will be sold a few weeks before the event. We will post a link on our site once it is live. A firm date has yet to be determined.
  • At the show: You can purchase your vouchers at the Photo Op booth located inside the Exhibit Hall, near the Autograph area.

Note: Not all guests are present all three days of the show, so if you’re buying your photo op onsite instead of online, keep in mind that they may have sold out, or may not be at the show for the day that works best for you.

When will you start selling photo op vouchers?

This will be a few weeks before the show. A firm date has yet to be determined.

Do I choose the time slot for my photo op or is it assigned to me?

Guests will typically have one photo op session for each day that they are at the convention. When you buy your photo op, you choose a photo op slot for either Friday, Saturday, or Sunday (based on availability). Once the photo ops are available for presale, you will be able to choose the day, and, if available, the predetermined time slot. Take note that schedules can change right until the day of the event.

Where will the actual photos be taken?

They will be right next to the Photo Ops booth inside the Exhibit Hall. One line will be for VIP ticket holders with purchased vouchers, and another for all other ticket types with vouchers.

How many friends can join me in the photo shoot?

You can have up to FOUR people in a single photo op shoot (not including babies or the media guests!). The photo op price is per posed picture, not per person. However, you will only get one 8″ x 10″ photo per voucher. Additional reprints and jpegs can be ordered onsite for $10.

How many copies can I get of my photo op?

We can only supply ONE photo, no matter how many fans are in the picture. You are free to order as many photo ops with the same celebrity as you wish. Additional reprints and jpegs can be ordered onsite for $10.

When will a specific guest be available for the photo op?

All information pertaining to a guest’s activities (photo ops, autographs, and/or on-stage appearance) is available on our website, within their individual profile.

Are the photo ops vouchers limited?

There are a limited number of photo ops for sale per session so it’s highly recommended that you purchase your photo ops online and not wait until the convention to purchase on site.

I can only purchase my photo ops vouchers on site, when should I buy them?

Considering there are a limited number of photo ops for sale per session, it is highly recommended that you purchase your photo ops as soon as you get into the convention.

Can I buy my Sunday photo op voucher on Friday?

Yes. You can purchase your Voucher as soon as you get into the convention, for any future time slot that is still available.

How early should I show up to the photo op?

Arriving 5-15 minutes beforehand is sufficient. Because there are a limited number of photo ops for sale per session, you need not worry about 1000 people showing up on Saturday afternoon for your photo op with Laurie Holden (or whoever your guest of choice is). Therefore, you do not need to line up ahead of time for your photo op. This is extremely important as it prevents unnecessary congestion in the photo op area inside the Exhibit Hall and will ultimately make everything run much more efficiently.

Does that mean I can arrive a few minutes after the scheduled time?

No. You should make sure that you are in the appropriate line by the scheduled time. If there is no one left in line, the guest will leave.

How will I receive my 8x10 photo(s)?

Photos are available right after they are taken. Please see the Photo Ops booth for more details.

Will there be a plexiglass when I take my picture?

Talent reserves the right to modify precautions at any time due to comfort level at the time of the event.

Epic photo ops is making plexiglass barriers available as an option to celebrities during photo ops. Each celebrity may choose to utilize it or not up until the time of their photo session. Just as personal preferences are fluid, so is the situation and we appreciate your understanding! Verify on-site as to if plexiglass has been decided to be used during your photo op, and if that doesn’t meet with your preferences, you may request a refund before entering the booth to get your photo taken. Fees are non-refundable except upon guest cancellation

My guest of choice isn't on the photo op schedule - what gives?

Some of our Media Guests prefer to offer photos at their table with the attendee’s camera/phone. There is still a fee for the photo op so be sure to pay attention to any signage/volunteers that may have important information for you regarding costs/procedures. If this is the case, be sure to bring your own camera.

I have a VIP pass - can my friends wait in the VIP line with me for the photo ops?

We love to encourage long lasting friendships, however, our VIPs have paid good money for their passes and if everyone started to bring their besties in the line-up with them then the value of the VIP pass would be diminished. The VIP line ups are for VIP pass holders only.

But what if it's for the same photo shoot?

Ah, in that case, the friends you choose share the photo session with can have any type of pass. However, keep in mind that if your friend has a voucher and wants a solo pic, they’ll need to go to the regular line-up.

Autographs

Where is the Celebrity Autograph Zone located?

The Celebrity Autograph Zone is now located on the 7th floor of Palais des congrès.

Do celebrities charge for their autograph?

Most of the celebrities will have a cost associated to their autograph. These costs are indicated next to each celebrity bio on our website and our mobile app.

Do comic book creators charge for their autograph?

For the most part comic book creators do not charge for autographs. There are some big name guests that may charge a low fee for an autograph.

How much does it cost to get an autograph?

Each guest sets his/her own price for autographs and photo ops. Prices will be posted on each guest’s page as soon as the information is made available to us.

Where do I buy autographs?

Autographs can be purchased at the Montreal Comiccon, at the individual guest’s table, where the autographs are taking place (in the Exhibit Hall). The celebrity will usually have a guest liaison that will take care of the monetary transaction.

What types of payments are accepted for autographs?

On-site autographs can only be purchased with cash.

Can I pre-purchase autographs the same way I can pre-purchase photo ops?

Typically the answer to this question is “no”, however, we may have online pre-sales available for some of the marquee guests.

Can I bring my own items to autograph or am I limited to the guest pre-printed material?

You can bring your own items to autograph. However, it is up to the guest to accept or refuse to sign a given item. Guests will refuse to sign any bootlegged material or items unrelated to their career. Take note, that a premium price may be charged for some personal items (examples: Funko Pop figures, props, large posters).

Can I get an autograph while I'm getting my photo op?

The photo op time slots are strictly for photo ops only. Autographs are not permitted in the photo op area but you can get an autograph at your guest’s table during their designated autograph times.

Will the guest be signing items and taking pictures during the presentation?

All appearances on stage, workshops, and panel time slots are strictly for presentation only. Autographs are not permitted in the presentation rooms, but you can get an autograph at your guest’s table during their designated autograph times.

I have a VIP pass - Can my friends wait in the VIP line with me for autographs?

We love to encourage long lasting friendships, however, our VIPs have paid good money for their passes and if everyone started to bring their besties in the line-up with them then the value of the VIP pass would be diminished. The VIP line ups are for VIP pass holders only.

Candid Photography

Can I bring my camera?

Of course! Please note that there will be restrictions on photos and recording during panels and other events, but you are free to take photos on the show floor, as long as you are courteous to those you are photographing. Most people coming in costume will be happy to be photographed and will even pose on request.

Can I take photos of the guests/celebrities?

Certain guests may have policies wherein they charge for snapshots or have exclusive deals with professional photographers at the con. Don’t be offended if they refuse to take a snapshot with you, or ask for cash first.

Please keep in mind that, though they might be celebrities, our Guests are people first. They may not want to take pictures in off-hours after they’ve been in photo shoots. Others simply do not like candid shots of themselves to be taken. Please respect their decision.

Can I take a picture of con attendees?

In general, Costumers and Cosplayers really like to be photographed and complimented on their costume; don’t be shy, but do be considerate. Ask before taking photos of costumers, it’s only polite and there may be people at con who aren’t interested in having their photos taken and plastered all over the Internet (it’s true!) Don’t be offended if they say no. Or they may just want to get to the bathroom ASAP.

It is VERY important that you ask a parent, guardian, or chaperone for permission to take a minor’s photo and let them know where the photo will be located. If they say no, please respect their wishes. Again, don’t be offended if they say no.

Hotels, Convention Centre and Logistics

Where do I book a room for Montreal Comiccon?

There are several hotels in proximity to the convention centre, below is a small sampling:

Is there a coat check and or lockers where I can leave my stuff?

There is no coat check or designated area where items can be left. Therefore please ensure that you can carry whatever you bring/buy.

Where can I eat at Comiccon?

The Palais des congrès has a commercial mall with a food court on the ground level that includes several options: Tim Horton’s, Subways, Sushi Shop, Noo Box, Terra Verde, Press Café, La Popessa, Fourquette Fourchette, Basha Resto-Grill, Café Bistro Van Houtte.

Attendees are also expected to take proper measures to maintain a clean environment and dispose of any food or drink (including packaging) related garbage properly when they are done.  Attendees who cause damage or are otherwise abusive of their food and drink privileges may be expelled from the convention.

Can I eat during a presentation?

The consumption of food or beverages is forbidden in all panel rooms and the Main Events room. Only water bottles will be accepted in these rooms.

Costuming, Cosplay & The Masquerade

What is costuming or cosplay?

Costuming and Cosplay (costume and play) is the act of dressing up as a character from comics, anime, videogames, manga, movies, TV, or books. Costuming and Cosplay is not to be confused for a Halloween costumes. There is a remarkable amount of passion and attention to detail that is involved in the creation of a piece as well as dressing-up and displaying it.

Do I have to get dressed up?

Yes… No. Really, you do not have to get dressed up to attend Comiccon. But if you would like to, it would make us really happy.

While it is highly encouraged, keep in mind that there are some restrictions apply:

  • Footwear is required (do not come barefoot).
  • Costumes that are deemed to be indecently revealing (the “no costume is not a costume” principle), as well as costumes or props that are deemed to be offensive or otherwise unacceptable by Montreal Comiccon standards are prohibited. An attendee who is wearing a costume or carrying a prop that does not meet these requirements may be asked to change into either street clothes or another costume.
  • All large props or any props resembling weapons (including guns, swords, spears, whips, bows, etc.) must pass through weapons check and be verified and peacebonded by the Montreal Comiccon Weapons Master to ensure they are safe. Failure to do so may result in expulsion from the convention without refund. Please refer to our Weapons Policy for more detail.

What should I dress up as?

Steampunk Zombie? Nothing is too obscure or mainstream. Surprise us. Or come as Batman. Be Batman.

What is the masquerade?

The Masquerade is one of the highlights of the Montreal Comiccon. It is a non-professional costume competition featuring costumes from comic books, movies, Japanese animation or video games.

How does the masquerade work?

There are two different entry categories:

  1. A Skit is a short sketch done alone or with a group. The time limit is one minute (60 seconds). For a group of four or more, the limit is a minute and a half (90 seconds). If the skit is longer than the allocated time, the lights and the sound will be cut and the contestants will be escorted off the stage.
  2. During a Walk-On, the contestant or the group walks on the stage, strikes different poses in the middle of the stage to show their costumes on every angle and walks out of the other side of the stage. Background music on a CD is permitted and strongly encouraged.

How do I enter the masquerade?

A few registrations will be accepted online (form available a few weeks before the show), as well as on-site at the masquerade registration table, located in the Cosplay Lounge. The booth will be open from 10:00 a.m. to noon p.m. on Saturday. There are a limited number of entry slots.

I bought/rented my costume; can I participate?

The masquerade is a non-professional competition. Costumes bought online or rented are not eligible for any award, same as professional or theatrical costumes. However, these costumes can be presented on stage in the “Out of competition” category. Please note that priority is given to the costumes created by the non-professional contestants. The “Out of Competition” applications will be allowed only if additional slots are still available.

Wigs, small props or jewels not made by the costumer are exempted.

What kinds of presentations are available?

There will be Celebrity on Stage, workshops, panel discussions and more. A complete list of panels and presentation will be available 7 to 10 days before the event.

How do I know when each star appears or when an event takes place?

Guests will have a note next to their bio that will list which day they will appear (Appearances = Photo Ops and Autographs) and what day their appearance on stage (Q&A) is planned. A detailed schedule will be available 7 to 10 days before the event. We encourage everyone to download the Montreal Comiccon App for all scheduling details.

Will guests be available all 3 days?

Most Guests are scheduled to be at the Montreal Comiccon for all 3-days. A few guests will only make a single or two day appearance. Guests will have a note next to their bio that will list which day they will appear (Appearances = Photo Ops and Autographs)

Why did my favorite guest cancel? I bought a ticket just to see them!

There are a number of reasons why someone cancels, from last minute emergencies, to illness, to jobs, to moral crisis about their appearance, to a myriad of other reasons. When we book our guests, both enter the agreement with the expectation that they make their appearance. Things happen that are out of everyone’s control. The best advice we can give is to try to enjoy other aspects of the convention while you are there. There is quite a lot to see and do. In such circumstances, the Montreal Comiccon cannot be held responsible. All sales are final. No exchange or refund will be issued.

My favorite celebrity is listed as being there all three days. Will they appear on stage (Q&A) on all days?

No. As a general rule, celebrities will only be appear on stage on one of those days. Schedule will be available 7 to 10 days before the event.

Which day will my favorite celebrity appear on stage?

That information will be posted much closer to the event date. Schedules tend to change several times before they can be posted, and even then it should always be considered tentative. As soon as some information is available, it will be shared next to the celebrities bio.

When should I arrive for a main event?

We ask that attendees line-up no earlier than 60 minutes before a scheduled event. Simultaneous line-ups for back-to-back to panels will not be permitted. Example: Panel A starts at 4:00 PM and Panel B at 5:00 PM. Attendees can line up for Panel A as of 3:00 PM (1 hour before), but cannot line-up for Panel B between 3:00 to 3:59 PM, as this would mix the lines and lead to confusion and congestion.

Are the lineups long to get in to see a panel?

Lineups for certain events can be lengthy. Therefore, we recommend that you arrive at the designated site 45 minutes prior to the scheduled presentation time.

Please be respectful to others in the line. Everyone in the line is just as excited as you are. Cutting in front of other audience members is unacceptable.

When is the schedule coming out?

The schedule is “finalized” not too far before the show; look for it 7 to 10 days before the event. That being said, there will undoubtedly be alterations due to last minute changes. As we announce tentative schedules, we try to keep up and list them on our completely Schedule Grids on site (in front of each room). We recommend that you subscribe to our Instagram, Twitter and Facebook accounts to get current updates.

How early should I arrive if I want to get a good seat during a non-main event panel?

No matter how early you arrive, there is no guarantee what type of seating will be available. That said, we recommend 45 minutes.

Can I ask questions during a panel?

Most panelists allocate a specific time for question and answer sessions. They will let you know!

I heard that I can give gifts to the celebrity at the photo op/Celebrity on stage/autographs sessions?

Due to security considerations and guest concerns we cannot facilitate the giving of gifts to guests. Please note that because guests usually travel by plane they are unable to take gifts home with them in any case.

Can I take pictures during panels, workshops or main events?

Photography and recordings may be permitted during workshops, panels, and Celebrity on stage sessions and in the Artists’ Area at the discretion of the host(s)/artists involved. If you are unsure whether photography or videography are allowed during a particular event or in a particular area, ask permission from Montreal Comiccon Staff first.

Volunteers

Do I need to be a certain age to volunteer?

Yes, we require all volunteers to be at least 18 years old. However, students 16 and up can also volunteer provided they have a completed Parental Consent Form at the time of their first shift.

Do I need to buy my pass in advance?

Yes, we require all volunteers need to be pass-carrying attendees. However, we do offer a rewards system based on the amount of hours volunteered. This is only applicable to those who have purchased 3-DAY passes.

  • For 8 hours worked over the course of the weekend, we will reimburse 50% of the cost of a 3-DAY pass.
  • For 15 hours worked over the course of the weekend, we will reimburse 100% of the cost of a 3-DAY pass.

If you have purchased a VIP or Deluxe pass, we will refund you the reimbursement value of a 3-DAY pass.

Can volunteers work for less than 8 hours?

Yes. Volunteers can work for as many or as little hours as they want. Before being scheduled, all volunteers will be asked how many hours like would like to volunteer for. Please remember though that all volunteers must be pass-carrying attendees, even if you are not planning on working enough hours for a reimbursement.

What types of jobs are volunteers asked to do?

Potential jobs include, but are not limited to, badge checking and crowd control.

If I volunteer, am I guaranteed to meet the special guests?

No. During your free time, you are free to enjoy the convention as an attendee, including going to meet the guests. Due to agent requests and busy schedules, we cannot guarantee that you will meet all the guests. You will also be responsible for the autograph and photo fees.

I've never volunteered before at a convention, is there any special training needed?

Nope! We are always happy to have new volunteers. We will be hosting an orientation meeting for the volunteers and while it is not mandatory, attendance will be highly encouraged, especially for first time volunteers.

I've never attended a convention before, can I still volunteer?

Definitely! While it is recommended that you don’t volunteer as many hours, so as to get that much more time to explore the convention, we are always happy to have new volunteers, even those who have never been to a convention before.

Do the volunteers get any perks?

All volunteers will be given a Montreal Comiccon volunteers t-shirt, and a food voucher for the day(s) that they are volunteering.

Exhibitors

What is the cost of purchasing booth space?

The prices for booth space are shown in the registration form, found here.

Is parking at the Palais des congrès free for exhibitors and artists?

There is no parking provided with your booth. There are a few parking lots around and inside the Palais des congrès. The rates vary depending on the lot and time of the day.

Where do I register to become an exhibitor?

What can't I sell?

Exhibitors/Artists cannot sell pornographic materials, weapons that are not legal by Canadian and Quebec legislation, bootlegged material and art that the seller doesn’t have the creator’s authorization to sell. Also, they cannot sell food or drinks in the Exhibition Hall without prior approval from Capital Traiteur, Palais des congrès’ official and exclusive caterer.

Special Services

What types of Special Services support do you offer?

The goal of being Special Services-aware is to do what we can to ensure all our attendees can enjoy the con, regardless of their individual circumstances. We provide support for those with reduced mobility who are in our entry or events line-ups. Challenges that impact how our attendees enjoy Main Events and Small Panel presentations are mitigated by, for example, seating vision-challenged attendees with the best views of our stages or television monitors, seating hearing-challenged attendees close to speaker systems where possible; and so on. Read on for more details about more services that we offer!

How do you handle early morning entry line-ups, and line-ups to main events and small panels?

We provide seating for attendees who cannot stand in a line-up. We ensure those with reduced mobility or with service animals enter the event or panel rooms before able-bodied attendees (of the same ticket class) to allow for any extra time, maneuvering and personal setup that may be needed.

How do you handle lines-ups to autographs and photo ops?

We will find seating for attendees who cannot stand in a line-up but will still “maintain” their ordered place as if they were waiting in the line-up so as to not get ahead of anyone. In addition, we give our section Team Leads and their volunteers the flexibility to assess situations on a case-by-case basis; for example, if attendees who qualify under our Special Services criteria cannot wait for their ordered place in line to reach the autograph or photo op opportunity, we will give them priority status – just let us know.

Do you allow service animals?

In the province of Quebec, only dogs are recognized as legally designated service animals. These dogs must carry visual identification issued by the following specific groups to be considered as such: the MIRA Foundation, the PACCK Foundation, the Lions Foundation, Assistance Dogs International, and the International Guide Dog Federation (IGDF). Alternatively, attendees may present a letter from one of these organizations confirming the completed training of their dog. It is crucial to adhere to these regulations, as any other animals are strictly prohibited from accessing the convention centre without prior written permission from the venue. These guidelines ensure that service animals receive the appropriate recognition and allow for a safe and accommodating environment for all attendees.

Do personal care attendants have to purchase their own tickets?

We have a class of attendees who are “Personal Care Attendants” of those attendees who need someone on-hand at all times to provide significant, personal care. If you do not plan to participate in any autographs, photo ops, and other Comiccon activities yourself, and you are only planning to attend Comiccon to help an attendee who qualifies as requiring significant personal care under our Special Services criteria, you do not need a ticket. We do restrict the number of Personal Care Attendants to one person per ticketed attendee.

How accessible is the location?

The Palais des congrès has elevators to help attendees of reduced mobilities to move around. As with all public spaces, there are a number of wheelchair-accessible washrooms.

How do you handle unique cases that don't fall your Special Services policy?

Written policies cannot always support every possible scenario; we thus give our section Team Leads and their volunteers the flexibility to assess situations on a case-by-case basis and to make helpful decisions on the spot.

How do I take advantage of Special Services?

During Registration, you can identify yourself as wishing to take advantage of our Special Services program. You will be directed nearby to the Special Services kiosk where a sticker will be appended to your Comiccon badge; this simply identifies you as being part of the program – as you meet staff and volunteers throughout the event, they will know you were briefed on the services offered and will proceed in helping you enjoy the con!

Does Montreal Comiccon have a Code of conduct policy?

Can you be specific in regards to what you mean by "harassment"?

Montreal Comiccon is a safe place for fans to interact with each other, their favorite creators, celebrities, and generally be themselves. This means we expect it to be a safe environment for fans from any ethnicity, creed, religious background, political background, gender, gender identity, sexual identity, sexual orientation, fandom, etc. We do not tolerate harassment in any form. This includes, but is not limited to: physical assault, verbal harassment, sexual harassment, stalking, unwanted physical contact, unwanted advances, or inappropriate photography.

Montreal Comiccon does not tolerate physical or verbal harassment of the attendees, guests, vendors, staff, or volunteers. Harassment can take many forms. It may be, but is not limited to, words, signs, offensive jokes, cartoons, pictures, posters, pranks, intimidation, physical assaults or contact, or violence. This includes comments and statements made via email, on websites or any of our social networks.

What is inappropriate photography?

Inappropriate photography is defined as photography where the subject feels they are being stalked, exploited, degraded, or disrespected through being photographed. While it is reasonable that photographers will be photographing attendees and other parts of the convention, should this photography become harassing or sexual in nature, the photographer will be subject to the above harassment policy.

What are the consequences is someone is found to be abusing on these policies?

If it is determined – either by observation or by complaint – that an individual or group has harassed another attendee, any or all of the following things may occur. That individual or group may be:

1. Warned to cease and desist;

2. Asked to leave the convention, or;

3. Banned from the convention for a period of time to be determined by staff.

What is Sci-Fi?

What are comic books?
