MONTREAL COMICCON 2024: CELEBRATING EPIC ANNIVERSARIES WITH WOLVERINE, STAR WARS, AND FREDDY KRUEGER!

Montreal (Quebec) March 19, 2024 – Montreal Comiccon’s 14th edition will be a monster event! On the weekend of July 5 to 7, the event will be celebrating several landmark anniversaries in the universe of fantasy fiction. Horror hounds of all stripes will descend on Montreal’s Palais des congrès as we honour the 40th anniversary of A Nightmare on Elm Street, one of the most terrifying film franchises of all-time. Robert Englund, AKA Freddy Krueger is our first guest of honour to be announced for Quebec’s biggest celebration of pop culture where tens of thousands of fans will gather to revel in the worlds of comics, manga, bande dessinée, movies, video games and all the delightful things that tickle the imagination.

Montreal Comiccon will roll out its red carpet for a parade of stars from beloved motion pictures and TV shows. Accompanying Mr. Englund all the way from Elm Street will be original cast members Amanda Wyss, Lisa Wilcox, Heather Langenkemp, and Ronee Blakley. The spooky group will take photos and sign autographs Saturday, July 6, and Sunday, July 7, and take to the stage for a 45-minute discussion about the dream demon that was spawned four decades ago. As Guest of Honour, Montreal Comiccon is thrilled to add Vincent D’Onofrio. One of the hardest working actors with four decades of credits, he is known for his stand-out roles in various high profile projects, including Men in Black (1997), The Cell(2000), Adventures in Babysitting (1987), Law & Order: Criminal Intent (2001-2011), Jurassic World (2015), Stanley Kubrick’s Full Metal Jacket (1987), and his acclaimed performance as Wilson Fisk, aka the Kingpin, in several Marvel Studios projects. From the Star Wars universe, Darth Maul himself, Ray Park, will mark the 25th anniversary of The Phantom Menace with his Saber Action Master Class, a special 45-minute instruction of saber choreography and demonstration, in an intimate and private session*. Montreal Comiccon is also pleased to welcome Giancarlo Esposito, known for a myriad of roles, including Moff Gideon in Star Wars: The Mandalorian, Gus Fring in Breaking Bad and Better Call Saul, Sidney Glass in Once Upon a Time, and Stan Edgar in the Amazon hit The Boys.

Many more entertainment celebrities will be in attendance, ready for their on-stage appearance, autographs and photo ops! Featured guests include Jeff Ward, Buggy the Clown from Netflix’s fantastic pirate saga, One Piece and Deke Shaw in Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. Wrestling superstars Kevin Nash and Rob Van Dam will also be joining the festivities. Comedy misfits the Trailer Park Boys (John Paul Tremblay, Mike Smith, and Robb Wells) will add mayhem and laughter as they appear IN-CHARACTER! In the world of animation voice-acting, fans will get a chance to meet Jodi Benson, the melodic voice of Ariel in Disney’s 1989 classic The Little Mermaid.

Wolverine turns 50

One of the most iconic comic book characters, the Canadian super-hero is recognized around the world for his short temper and three claws protruding from each of his knuckles. He was created by Roy Thomas, Len Wein, John Romita Sr., and Herb Trimpe, and first appeared as the antagonist in The Incredible Hulk #180 in 1974. Montreal Comiccon is proud to have Cal Dodd, the actor that brought the “ol’ canucklehead’s” rugged voice to life in X-Men: The Animated Series – which Hugh Jackman used as a template to create the role for the big screen.

Inspired by James “Logan” Howlett reaching the big five-oh, our initial batch of comic book guests includes artists and writers that have worked on extending Wolverine’s story in the pages of X-Men, Wolverine, X-Force, and other titles. Montreal Comiccon is pleased to welcome Ryan Stegman (X-23, Spider-Man, Venom); 2014 Inkpot Award winner Mark Brooks (Avengers, Secret Empire, Han Solo); writer, director, and voice-actor Zeb Wells (Robot Chicken, New Mutants,The Amazing Spider-Man, Hellions).

To further celebrate a half century of Weapon X, Montreal Comiccon is launching a call to all Wolverines to come dressed in full character, be it his classic yellow and blue costume, his brown costume, or any of the variations (including his children and clones!) to help set a new world record for the largest cosplay meet-up of its kind (date and time to be announced soon on Comiccon’s website).

Three floors to discover

Comiccon is spread across three floors of the Palais des congrès, with the second floor reserved for the sprawling market and artist alley, the fifth floor hosts all the events and some activities, while the seventh floor houses the Autograph Area. On Saturday evening, some of the world’s best and most devoted cosplayers will don spectacular costumes and embody their favourite heroes in the widely popular Masquerade contest. For fans convinced that they look like someone very famous will get the opportunity to prove it in the inaugural Celebrity Look-a-Like competition. Our TRRPG (Tabletop Role-Playing Game) section has extended further, and brave adventurers can now choose between vanquishing dungeon-dwelling Dragons, masquerading Vampires, Cthulian horrors, Fate, and more!

Plenty more guests and activities will be announced in the weeks to come.

Montreal Comiccon is made possible thanks to its adventurous partners: Sorcière et Magie, Éditions ADA, Télétoon la Nuit, Asmodee, Sports de combat, Parallel Life Studios, Palais des congrès, Loto-Québec, Casino de Montréal, Cinémas Guzzo, EBOX, École NAD-UQAC, G.A.M.E./D&D Mtl, and Pure Arts.
