Bio

Dimitri Patelis is known in the comic book industry for his work on the trading card sets of the 1995 Marvel Masterpieces, Fleer Ultra X-Men, and his fan-favorite Venom and Carnage cards in the 1995 Fleer Ultra Spiderman sets. Other notable works include his covers for Mars Attacks! by Topps, Aliens and Predator trade paperbacks by Orion/Dark Horse and an illustrated Lady Death annual calendar for Chaos! Comics.

His art evolved from his intense interest in old and contemporary masters. The art of Albrecht Dürer, Leonardo da Vinci, Ernst Fuchs, Frank Frazetta, Paolo Eleuteri Serpieri, H.R. Giger, John Buscema and iconic album covers, fused with the sounds of heavy metal and punk music, fueled his creativity.

Dimitri, a Canadian born Greek, started drawing at the late age of 16 in his ancestral grounds of Greece. Within seven years, the self-taught artist emerged in the North American market and ever since has worked with companies like Marvel Comics, Topps Comics, Hasbro, Electronic Arts and Dreamworks to name a few.

Patelis mastered the use of the airbrush in the early 90s, which contributed to his early success. By 1997, he incorporated computer-aided design and extreme digital techniques to expand his traditional method. By experimenting and honing non-stereotypical styles, he constantly reinvents his work while at the same time killing the routine. He enjoys interacting with fans and drowning himself in commissions.

His art and designs have appeared and licensed out worldwide on books, billboards, vinyl albums, CDs, DVDs, posters, skateboards, t-shirts, mobile accessories and vehicle graphics.
Aside from the world of comics he has been a Creative Director and Designer in advertising and web applications for over two decades.
