Tia Carrere is an American actress, model, singer and voice artist best known for her role as Sydney Fox on the hit Canadian TV series, Relic Hunter.
After being noticed on Star Search in 1985, she appeared in bit roles on TV series such as The A-Team and Air Wolf. She eventually landed a regular stint on the soap opera General Hospital, as nurse Jade Soong Chung, followed by a string of co-starring roles on MacGyver, Quantum Leap and Friday the 13th, among others.
Tia Carrere’s breakthrough came in the form of an unlikely comedy, Wayne’s World (1992), starring Mike Meyers and Dana Carvey, in which she played Cassandra and was able to showcase both her singing and acting chops. Reprising her role in the sequel Wayne’s World 2 (1993), her character became worldwide phenomena and set the stage for her turn as the villainous Juno Skinner in True Lies (1994), opposite Arnold Schwarzenegger and computer whiz Jingo Asakuma in Rising Sun (1993), alongside Sean Connery and Wesley Snipes.
After Relic Hunter left the small screen in 2002, Carrere voiced Nani, Lilo Pelekai's older sister and legal guardian in the Disney feature Lilo & Stitch (2002), its sequel films and Lilo & Stitch: The Series. Since then, she’s voiced more animated characters like The Martian Queen in Duck Dodgers and Judy Reeves in Scooby-Doo! Mystery Incorporated, among others. In recent years, Carrere has appeared in a myriad of projects, including the The O.C., Nip/Tuck, Curb Your Enthusiasm, CSI: Miami, Warehouse 13, and Hawaii Five-0.
Carrere has also led an interesting singing career. Her first solo album, Dream, released in 1993, went platinum in the Philippines. Her subsequent albums have been nominated for several Grammy Awards, and winning in 2009 and 2011.
