David Tennant | Doctor Who
David Tennant (born David John McDonald) is a Scottish actor best known for his role as the 10th Doctor on the international hit series Doctor Who.
David spent most of his career on stage, joining the Royal Shakespeare Company and playing roles such as Romeo in Romeo & Juliette and the lead role in Richard II, which he also brought to Broadway. He is appearing as Don Juan in Soho from March to June 2017.
David is an accomplished voice actor, most recently cast as Scrooge McDuck in the reboot of DuckTales. Along with stage and voice acting, David is a gifted film and television actor. He has appeared in movies like Casanova (2005) and has played DI Alec Hardy in all 3 seasons of Broadchurch, along with playing Emmett Carver in the American version Gracepoint. In 2003, David played Barty Crouch Jr. in Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire.
It was in 2005 that David fulfilled a childhood dream by taking over the iconic role of the Doctor in Doctor Who, a role he would play until 2010. He reprised his role as the 10th incarnation of the Doctor for the 50th anniversary special, "The Day of the Doctor", in 2013. It was a role he had wanted to play since the age of 3.
In 2015, David appeared in Netflix’s Jessica Jones, playing the mind-controlling, villainous Kilgrave to perfection.
David is involved in several charities. He is patron of Essex Headway, a charity focusing on providing brain injury care and support. David has also been part of many skits for Red Nose Day, a fundraising event for Comic Relief, along with his Doctor Who companion, Catherine Tate.
