Born in Liverpool, England, Jason Isaacs is best known for playing Lucius Malfoy in the Harry Potter films.
Jason studied law before deciding to become an actor. During the summer, he would perform at the Edinburgh Fringe Festival; after graduation, he trained at the London’s Royal Central School of Speech and Drama.
Jason is also a voice actor, voicing such roles as Sinestro in Green Lantern: Emerald Lights and Lex Luthor in Justice League: Gods and Monsters.
In 1997, he appeared alongside Laurence Fishburne in the science-fiction movie Event Horizon and went on to star in movies such as Armageddon (1998) and portray the villain, Colonel William Tavington in The Patriot (2000). From 2002 to 2011, he appeared as the wonderfully villainous Lucius Malfoy, father of Draco Malfoy, in the Harry Potter films.
Jason is also an accomplished television actor, appearing in a diverse range of roles, from playing Detective Michael Britten in Awake, Peter Connelly in Dig to most recently, Dr. Hunter Aloysius in The OA. In March 2017, it was announced that he has been cast as Captain Lorca in Star Trek: Discovery, the newest addition to the Star Trek television series.
Jason is involved in several charities. He has participated in the Theatre of War project, which helps veterans deal with their invisible wounds. Most recently he has teamed up with the Marie Curie Foundation for the Make Every Daffodil Count project, a fundraiser to help provide care to people living with terminal illness.
